On Saturday September 21st Lucas F completed his Eagle Scout Project at the Burke Commonwealth pool. About 12 scouts participated. They used paver stones to create a patio in their picnic area, as well as a platform for grilling. We started at 9 in the morning and finished at 3:30 in the afternoon. Overall, the project was a huge success, and the pool leaders/board were extremely pleased with the results.

Andrew F Eagle Scout Project

On September 14th Andrew F with T50 completed his eagle scout project, a landscaping project that lasted from about 9 am to 4 pm.  They landscaped the basketball court next to the pool by clearing on growing vegetation, building a wooden barrier, cleaning the basketball court, and filling in the cracks with crack filler. This project went very well and had a huge impact on the commonwealth swim club.

Greenbelt Maryland Advancement Camp 2024

Posted on Jun 13 2024 - 11:03am

During ___, around 20 of us scouts camped at Greenbelt Maryland. We as a trop, had X new scouts gain there Totin' Chit and X scouts get there Firm'n Chit. We had a number of scouts achieve in total: 5 advancements to Scout rank, one to Tenderfoot, and another to Star Scout during the campout. There was some mishaps in the cooking preparation, but overall the meals the GrubMasters cooked where fabulous. In addition, we had 2 hikes in light rain. The first was a 2 mile hike, while the second was a 5 mile hike, totaling up to 7 miles. The older scouts showed leadership skills by teaching the younger scouts how to make knots, lashings, how to build a fire, and how to properly use cutting tools. (temporary save)

2024 Manassas Gap Backpacking Trip

Posted on Apr 22 2024 - 6:20pm

Last week, our Troop 50 Scouts backpacked for 5-miles roundtrip up a mountain to the Manassas Gap Shelter. We had to push ourselves for the time it took to reach the 1000 foot elevation. We enjoyed the beautiful view from our high vantage point, as we trekked upwards. Overnight, the scouts were prepared for any possible bears they might have encountered by hanging all their food on a bear pole in which the adult volunteers helped store the food and trash above, that would prevent any bear from rummaging around in our stuff. In addition, we had three new scouts, who showed their resilience throughout the trip. We are truly proud of them. Overall, our scouts and parents had a great and possibly exhausting time on our backpacking trip, leaving us with a feeling of well-earned accomplishment.
